Know what, I have moved from the denial/anger stage to the sad stage about this casting. I’ll forever be sad, knowing I’ll never be pleased with the Doctor Strange film even though I have wanted this for so long. No matter what, I won’t like it, let alone enjoy it. *Sigh*, in some alternate reality/universe, things went right, and they cast someone else. In that reality, I’m happy, at least for a moment.
This sucks major ass b/c the thing I love about Strange is how different he is from other superheroes. His dealings with magic/occult and how he has to face foes from other dimensions, silently protecting the universe without personal gain. He understands his duty as Sorcerer Supreme, one that sacrifices a normal life for one constantly in danger, and always on guard from whatever is thrown his way; he’s doing all of this to protect humanity, for humanity’s sake. With this casting, Marvel is letting me know they want Sherlock 2.0, which Strange is definitely not. Yes, Strange is intelligent and off-beat, but beyond that they’re not the same. Sherlock is arrogant; I don’t want an arrogant Strange b/c that would be Strange pre-sorcery. He was self-centred, but once he learned mystic stuff he became enlightened to his wrong’s. Maybe I’m still pissy about Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, and how he did that character (no surprise I didn’t like it). This casting is too safe; they could have gone with say Oded Fehr or Pedro Pascal or heck my personal choice Jim Caviezel (his character in Person of Interest sometimes channels Strange in the whole confident-controlled-I-must-save-people sort of thing).
Whatever the fuck you’re planning with this film Marvel, it better be so glorious that even the gold on an Oscar statuette melts the hell off from the amazingness radiating from the screen. I want people to be excited and/or interested in the film, kinda like what happened with GoTG. It now looks like we’re going in the wrong direction…not a good start. You better cast Clea and Mordo and/or Dormammu right, or so help me…
